Remedial works and repairs to structural elements

Following a structural assessment, there may be some specialised remedial works required to address a particular problem - eg. underpinning following subsidence or rectification of a structural failure.

The Structural Engineer will consider the problem to be overcome and produce a design for suitable remedial works and repairs to render the building stable and suitable for its ongoing use.

These designs typically include structural calculations, detailed drawings and method statements to allow the cost of the work to be estimated and subsequently installed. These designs will usually have to be submitted to the Local Authority for their approval.

The Structural Engineer will frequently be engaged to supervise the implementation of the remedial measures to help ensure that the works are carried out to the appropriate standard.
